anya & arlo’s wedding photos // cypress island, washington

I would say that it’s not everyday that friends get married in a way so epic and so grandiosely them, and ask me to photograph it and bring my family too. If I could choose a way to get married—besides the fact that I did, and we chose to elope, and I have zero regrets about it!—I would absolutely want it to be a culmination of all of my favorite weddings of all time! Small but full of life! A boat, or two or three (or four?)! On a private island! With a ceremony that included all members of the family, and in a way where the land met the sea in the most beautiful metaphor for weddings that I quite possibly have ever seen!

With the Salish Sea at their feet, with their wedding flowers flowing with the tides around them and with their children in their arms, Anya & Arlo were married.

I’ve imagined that I would write more about this glorious day when I finally sat down to blog this, but I couldn’t quite come up with the appropriate arrangement of words that would do them any justice at all. Both Anya & Arlo are the kind of people whose love for their friends is a dance between feeling like their best friends, like their brothers and sisters, and also like their children… they love that deeply and with the same care as if we were all of the above, so how do I even begin to write something that will do them justice, or paint their wedding in a light that would properly relay to you just how magical it really was.

But luckily I remembered that I did write about their wedding! Hello! Theirs was featured in Catalyst Wed Co. and during a time when I must’ve been better rested or at least a bit more keen, I wrote about the beauty of that day… I loved reading that piece again, and I hope you will too. You can find it here.

Thank you, Anya & Arlo, for your friendship and your beauty, and for throwing the kind of wedding that ancient myths are made of!
