jennyj in love // san juan island, wa

One day not that long ago (but seemed forever ago), a day that happened to be summer solstice, I was taking a ferry to the San Juan Islands with JennyJ & her man Jay to photograph a wedding… and quite honestly a bit grumpy at the fact that we were taking the ferry so late in the day because I thought we’d miss the scenery. But lo & behold, in a surprising show of boastful display unmatched by no other, the universe checked my attitude with a Solstice Sunset that had my heart bursting through my chest with overwhelming gratitude… and of course a pushing & pulling desire to bottle it up inside the confines of my camera to be remembered forever.

So as the sun set on the longest day of the year, with so much love… I photographed love.

“This is the time of the rose, blossom and thorn, fragrance and blood. Now on this longest day, light triumphs, and yet begins the decline into the dark. The Sun King grown embraces the Queen of Summer in the love that is death because it is so complete that all dissolves into the single song of ecstasy that moves the worlds. So the Lord of Light dies to Himself, and sets sail across the dark seas of time, searching for the isle of light that is rebirth. We turn the Wheel and share his fate, for we have planted the seeds of our own changes and to grow we must accept even the passing of the sun.” –The Spiral Dance

Here’s to love, to warmth, to the sun, and to the cycles of our earth! Here’s to loving! And here’s to being loved!
