joe & reiny’s wedding // arlington, wa

This wedding happened quite awhile ago, but reliving it today has been a real treat for me… it’s amazing that over time, the feelings are really still the same, but I feel less attached to the details of the day & just way more attached to the feel of the day. Reiny & Joe have become friends of mine since this wedding, so looking back at these photos makes me realize how special I feel to have been a part of their wedding & then now a part of their life’s journey.

Joe & Reiny. The awesomest people I know.

Side note on being friends with these guys… when Reiny first asked me to be their wedding photographer, I super geeked out because I actually knew who she was, from my countless hours of listening to KUOW! Like most relationships in my life that revolve around being a life-long listener or NPR, I felt like we were already friends… so I’m glad that we actually did become friends in real life, and I’m glad that Reiny wasn’t scared off by my state of fangirl. Before the wedding happened, Michael convinced me to get an NPR-logo tattoo on my arm, which wasn’t even completely healed when I arrived at their wedding… talk about a weirdo. Anyway, Reiny has moved on from KUOW so I sadly don’t get to hear her voice anymore, which used to totally make my day every time; they’ve also moved all the way across town (practically to a “different country,” is what I told her when we were texting this morning), so drink dates & meeting for zumba class seem like a distant dream. But! Joe & Reiny are on the path to living out their life’s calling, both personally & professionally, and I love being witness to the growth that happens in life when the wedding is long over. Also, I have a tattoo & these photos… so this is a forever thing.

I also want to remember two things from this rad day. One, I just so happened to wear a dress that was an exact color match to the bridesmaids dresses… so you’ll see above that I’m actually in one of their wedding photos (taken by my lovely assistant meg), and they even included it in their wedding album! Love that! Also, I will never forget their first dance together… they danced to “Home” by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, and sang to each other & laughed together all the while. It was so beautiful, and I will never, ever forget it.

Love you, Reiny & Joe!

Catherine! I love these so much! Every time at look at the way you captured our day I’m taken right back to all the awesomeness of the whole event. You jumping in the picture with us was one of my favorite moments – I just thought that it was so fitting that your dress matched :) And even though we’re entire universes apart now (ahem, 5 miles) and I don’t talk to you through the radio anymore (but totally have a phone) I still love your NPR nerdiness and we will always have that one time when I got off my ass and Zumba’d.

But seriously, lets hang out soon.
